Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Four o'clock Sunday, light goes thin and gray,
Laundry basket I keep stepping over anyway,
Thumb on the remote but the show's not the thing,
Stomach's already drafting emails I ain't sent.
Kitchen clock ticks like it's keeping score,
Monday's a shape standing just outside the door,
Didn't do nothing wrong, didn't do nothing bad,
Just this hum in the chest like a battery left on.
Nana used to call it something with no name,
Just the static right before the week reloads the same.

[Chorus]
It's just the hour before the hour, nothing's wrong with me,
Four p.m. dread playing dress-up like a prophecy,
It's just the hour before the hour, let it have its say,
Doesn't mean the week's as heavy as it feels today.

[Verse 2]
So I open the calendar, lay Monday out in a row,
Seven little columns, not one big shadow,
Tuesday's got a dentist, Wednesday's kind of bare,
Turns out dread's just fog till you give it a chair.
Morning comes, the phone already did the work,
Says it's fifty-six degrees, so grab the gray shirt,
First meeting's at nine, traffic's running slow,
Leave twelve minutes early, that's all I need to know.
Didn't fix the job, didn't fix the boss,
Just turned a fog bank into a list I can cross,
Small thing, sure, but the small thing's enough,
Carrying numbers instead of carrying the whole bluff.

[Bridge]
Still gonna feel it, that drop when the light leaves,
Some dread's just weather, not something to grieve,
The columns don't hug you, the forecast don't care,
But at least come Monday I know what I'm wearing.

[Verse 3]
Called my brother up, said he gets it too,
Same hour, same ache, like a bruise coming through,
Said he used to think it meant something was broke,
Now he just breathes through it, lets it be a passing note.
Funny how the dread don't ask for much,
Just a name, a minute, a little bit of trust,
So I say it out loud now, I don't keep it inside,
"It's four o'clock again," and I let it ride.
Doesn't vanish quick, doesn't leave like a guest,
But it sits there quieter once I've confessed,
Turns out the monster was just Sunday in a coat,
Just the hour doing time before the morning wrote.

[Chorus]
It's just the hour before the hour, nothing's wrong with me,
Four p.m. dread playing dress-up like a prophecy,
It's just the hour before the hour, let it have its say,
Doesn't mean the week's as heavy as it feels today.

[Chorus]
It's just the hour before the hour, nothing's wrong with me,
Four p.m. dread playing dress-up like a prophecy,
It's just the hour before the hour, let it have its say,
Doesn't mean the week's as heavy as it feels today.

[Outro]
Just the hour before the hour,
Nothing's wrong with me.
