[Verse 1] When something goes wrong in the office today HR writes a new rule to keep problems away But policies pile up like snow on the ground And the old ones just sit there, they never come down [Chorus] It's the bureaucratic ratchet, turning one way Every incident adds more, none fade away Growing bigger, growing stronger, layer by layer The ratchet keeps clicking, but never repairs [Verse 2] New laws bring compliance, more boxes to check Each regulation means more HR on deck They're incentivized to expand what they do More policies mean more positions too [Chorus] It's the bureaucratic ratchet, turning one way Every incident adds more, none fade away Growing bigger, growing stronger, layer by layer The ratchet keeps clicking, but never repairs [Bridge] Business leaders don't push back, they don't understand When HR says "we need this" they give them a hand The cost of a lawsuit seems worse than the process So approvals keep coming, the system stays boundless [Verse 3] Like arteries clogging, decisions slow down Initiative struggles beneath policy's crown The organization thickens with each passing year While adaptation and change disappear [Chorus] It's the bureaucratic ratchet, turning one way Every incident adds more, none fade away Growing bigger, growing stronger, layer by layer The ratchet keeps clicking, but never repairs [Outro] One direction only, that's the ratchet's curse Getting thicker and slower, and always gets worse
