Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Quarter past eleven, the trip's not till morning
Already rehearsing a highway in mourning
Thumb on the map, zoomed to a stretch I don't know
Picturing brake lights, a spinout, a tow
Nobody's hurt yet but I've buried the car twice
Replayed the swerve in four kinds of bad advice
Phone on the pillow, the ceiling's my screen
Running a reel of a crash I haven't seen
Heart doing sixty before I've left the drive
Worst case gets a trailer, opening night
And I'm the whole audience, front row, wide-eyed
Watching a movie where nothing's verified

[Chorus]
I'm living the crash before I've turned the key
The worst case on a loop, no proof, just me
Every what-if dressed up like a prophecy
I'm living the crash before I've turned the key

[Verse 2]
Morning comes, I open the one that checks the road
Not my head, the actual asphalt, actual load
It scans ahead for wrecks, for weather, for the slow
Says switch here, or wait it out, a diner down below
Or carry on, the lane is clear, the worst case closed
One what-if answered, filed away, let it go
The other hundred don't come with a source I trust
So I put on the cello track, let the piano hush
Name them quiet: flat tire, late arrival, fine
Not every fear gets a verdict, just this one line
I drive the data, not the dread I wrote at night
Headlights on the question that was actually right

[Verse 3]
It's not just the highway, it's the call I haven't made
The test result, the email, the offer that might fade
I build the whole disaster out of silence and delay
Then sit inside the wreckage of a thing that hasn't weighed
My sister says she does it too, rehearsing funerals
For folks who just got stuck in traffic, nothing terrible
We laugh about it after, but the laughing comes in late
After hours lost to stories that we didn't validate
Maybe that's the practice, not some finish line of calm
Just catching it a little sooner, reading off the psalm
Of what is actually happening instead of what could be
One real mile at a time instead of all eternity

[Bridge]
Not every fear comes with a traffic report
Some nights the loop still finds the door
I'll check the road and still lie wondering why
Calm isn't proof, it's just a quieter sky
The what-ifs don't all get a verdict read
Some just go softer in my head instead

[Chorus]
I'm living the crash before I've turned the key
The worst case on a loop, no proof, just me
Every what-if dressed up like a prophecy
I'm living the crash before I've turned the key

[Chorus]
I'm living the crash before I've turned the key
The worst case on a loop, no proof, just me
Every what-if dressed up like a prophecy
I'm living the crash before I've turned the key
