Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Tuesday night, couch dent shaped like my own spine,
thumb on the glass, scrolling past the party line,
string lights strung over somebody's clothesline pole,
blue frosting cake, a dog in a polka-dot bandana stole.
Forty-one likes and it's barely half past nine,
caption reads "the real ones," and none of the real ones are mine.
I count six faces I know, zero of them texted,
the invite went to everyone, apparently I was deselected.
Phone gets heavy like it's carrying the lawn chairs,
the whole yard, the whole laugh track, straight into my palm,
and the feeling isn't tragic, it's just basic arithmetic,
me on one side of a fence built out of pixels and calm.

[Chorus]
It's just the left-out feeling, nothing more, nothing less,
a window you can see through but you can't get past,
it doesn't mean you're smaller, doesn't mean you're wrong,
it's a picture of one party, not the story of how long.

[Verse 2]
So here's what I do: press the button, screen goes dark,
black as a door closing quiet, no dramatic spark,
I call Dara, not to vent, just to hear her blender died again,
we laugh about nothing, that's the whole and only win.
Thursday, the diner with the booth that's cracked bright red,
two coffees, no caption needed, nothing to be read,
I write down names of people who would've knocked for me,
short list, sure, but every name on it is real company.
I pop the popcorn, call it a party, me and the dog and the fan,
two guests, no hashtag, still counts under any plan,
and somewhere I'm in a photo I don't even know exists,
someone's background laughter — turns out that's how it is.

[Verse 3]
Scroll back far enough and I'm the ghost in someone's feed,
a laugh track I walked out of before I learned I'd bleed,
I've been the party they weren't at, the light they never saw,
funny how the window swings both ways through that same door.
I text the ones I missed, say "wish you could've been there too,"
turns out grace is just a thing you give and then renew.

[Bridge]
It'll still sting some slow night, nine forty-seven on the clock,
a photo I never asked to see, a door I didn't knock,
I don't owe the feeling a reason, don't owe it a fight,
I just owe myself a phone call and an early night.

[Chorus]
It's just the left-out feeling, nothing more, nothing less,
a window you can see through but you can't get past,
it doesn't mean you're smaller, doesn't mean you're wrong,
it's a picture of one party, not the story of how long.

[Chorus]
It's just the left-out feeling, nothing more, nothing less,
a window you can see through but you can't get past,
it doesn't mean you're smaller, doesn't mean you're wrong,
it's a picture of one party, not the story of how long.
