[Verse 1]
Discrete modules, not a smooth gradient slide,
Stensola cracked it, twenty-twelve, nationwide claim implied,
Each module's got its own spacing, its own size,
Neighbors jump by root-two, ratio one-point-four applied,
Inside one module, cells move in lockstep, coherent,
Rotate together, scale together, that's the covenant,
Four to ten modules stacked dorsal to ventral flow,
Coarse to fine resolution, biggest fields down below.

[Chorus]
One-point-four, that's the jump between the gears,
Modules coherent, marching in careers,
Grid cells cluster, never solo, never lone,
Population code, position's never one cell's throne.

[Verse 2]
But the lattice ain't perfect, no crystal-clean array,
Krupic twenty-fifteen shows it buckles near the wall,
Shearing, stretching, hexagons go askew,
Borders warp the grid like a magnet pulls it through,
Stensola twenty-fifteen finds local distortion too,
Trapezoid room, different corners, different view,
So the grid's not a GPS fixed in stone,
It's a flexible map bent by the boundary zone.

[Chorus]
One-point-four, that's the jump between the gears,
Modules coherent, marching in careers,
Grid cells cluster, never solo, never lone,
Population code, position's never one cell's throne.

[Verse 3]
Now Fyhn 2007, take the rat somewhere new,
Same module realigns, phase and angle askew,
Not full remapping like the place cells often do,
Grids shift as a block, coherence still stays true,
Different room, different offset, different rotation shown,
But the internal structure of the module's fully grown,
Realignment, not chaos — a coordinated turn,
The metric stretches sideways while the pattern's still discerned.

[Verse 4]
Rewind the clock to pup-hood, watch the system wake,
Head-direction cells arrive first, compass without a shake,
Place cells follow next, patchy fields, still rough terrain,
Wills twenty-ten, Langston twenty-ten confirm the lane,
Grid cells lag behind them, hexagons still crude,
By postnatal twenty, lattice sharpens, less obscured,
Navigation stacks in order — direction, place, then grid,
The metric comes in last, the final scaffold lid.

[Bridge]
Now think about the math behind the module scheme:
Few discrete scales beat a thousand-cell dream,
Combinatorial code, modules multiply the range,
Small set of cells, huge span, positions rearrange,
You don't need one grid cell for every single inch,
Overlap the modules, ambiguity won't pinch,
Efficient, compact, a logarithmic trick,
That's the answer to the note — the module math is slick.

[Chorus]
One-point-four, that's the jump between the gears,
Modules coherent, marching in careers,
Grid cells cluster, never solo, never lone,
Population code, position's never one cell's throne.

[Outro]
Discrete, distorted, realigned, and grown,
The grid code's story, now it's clearly shown,
Modules build the map, boundaries make it bend,
Direction, place, then grid — that's how the code ascends.
