Forto: We are offering Solutions, but the European Union decides on the Drivers’ Stay
Headline from Sarajevo Times · compiled from 3 sources
Bosnia and Herzegovina's Ministry of Communications and Transport says a claim from the "Logistika BiH" Consortium that the Ministry bears the main responsibility for drivers and transport companies leaving the country "reflects neither the actual competencies of the institutions nor the activities undertaken"[1]
According to Sarajevo Times, the Ministry's statement says "the rule allowing for a 90-day stay within a 180-day period is not established – nor can it be altered—by the Ministry"[1], and that decisions on how it applies and any exceptions "rest with the competent European Union institutions and member states."The Ministry also said it has initiated regional coordination among Western Balkan states, held discussions with representatives of the European Commission and ambassadors of EU member states, and proposed concrete solutions for professional drivers[1], Sarajevo Times reports.RTV Slon reports that Minister Edin Forto said he understands the carriers' dissatisfaction[2].According to RTV Slon, the Ministry says one of the first concrete steps came in Croatia, where professional drivers from BiH have been able to apply for special visas since September 23[2].Sarajevo Times reported in September that carriers say the visa is "not a systemic solution" because it is valid only for Croatia[3].Forto said, according to Sarajevo Times: "Our goal, as it has always been, is to ensure that our drivers can work, and that our transport companies can remain and develop in Bosnia and Herzegovina."[1]
